Let’s be real: the internet is FULL of skincare advice.

From your favorite influencer to your aunt who swears by kitchen hacks, everyone has an opinion on how to “fix” your skin. But here’s the thing: not all advice is created equal—and some of it can actually do more harm than good.

As a skincare professional, I hear these myths all the time from clients who just want results. So today, let’s bust the most common skincare red flags—and save your skin from unnecessary stress.

 1. “Put toothpaste on your pimples”

You’ve probably heard this one at least once. The logic is: toothpaste dries things out, so it’ll “zap” your zit, right?

Wrong.
Toothpaste contains ingredients made for enamel, not skin—like fluoride, baking soda, and menthol. These can be way too harsh, leaving your skin dry, irritated, or even burned.

Try instead: Pure Clay Mask as a spot treatment,  Or go with a hydrocolloid pimple patch.

 2. “If it burns, it means it’s working”

Pain is not progress, dear.
That tingling sensation might feel like it’s doing something, but if your skin is burning, it’s probably screaming for help.

Burning can mean inflammation, over-exfoliation, or barrier damage—and none of those are on the path to glowing skin.

Try instead: Choose products that feel comfortable and nourishing. A healthy skin barrier loves calm and consistency.

If your skin is sensitive try the Sensitive skin face cream, with or without essential oils.

 3. “Exfoliate every day”

Over-exfoliation is one of the fastest ways to disrupt your skin. Scrubbing your face daily with acids or physical exfoliants can leave your skin red, raw, and reactive.

Try instead: 1–2 times per week is plenty for most skin types. Choose gentle exfoliants like lactic acid, enzymes, or soft rice scrubs.

Need a deeper cleaning? Book your facial and see your skin glows under the layers!

 4. “You don’t need sunscreen if it’s cloudy”

Even on overcast days, up to 80% of UV rays still reach your skin. Skipping sunscreen is one of the biggest mistakes I see—and it’s one of the easiest to fix.

Sun damage doesn’t just show up as a sunburn. It causes premature aging, dark spots, and skin texture changes over time.

Try instead: Wear SPF 30+ every single day. Yes, even when it’s cloudy. Yes, even inside (hello, windows and screens).

I recommend: Pure mineral sun protection SPF 30

K-Beauty SPF 50, such as Isntree, Beauty of Joseon

 5. “Use lemon juice to lighten dark spots”

We love lemons… in tea or salad dressing. Not on your skin.

Lemon juice is highly acidic and can burn your skin, damage your barrier, and worsen pigmentation—especially when exposed to sunlight.

Try instead: The Herbal Peeling treatment in the winter

The Bottom Line:

Your skin doesn’t need harsh, painful, or trendy treatments.
It needs consistency, nourishment, and care.

If you’re ever unsure whether a tip is legit, ask yourself:

Would I put this on my face if my skin was already irritated, sensitive, or healing?

If the answer is no… skip it.

✨ Healthy skin is calm, supported, and well-loved.
Stick with advice that honors your skin—not punishes it.
