The Most Common Skincare Mistakes I see (and How to Fix Them)

I absolutely love what I do – and one of the biggest blessings of this job is the connection I get to build with each and every one of you. Seriously, I feel like I have the best clients in the world. You’re not just clients on a calendar; you’re women (and men!) I genuinely care about. Skincare can be overwhelming, so I always offer honest and genuine guidance that is supportive and helpful when it comes to skincare – I want you to feel informed, confident and cared for.

Let’s talk about something I see often – common skincare mistakes . And before you worry, this isn’t about calling anyone out or shaming! We’ve all been there, we don’t born with all knowledge about everything in the world and my goal is to simply help guide you with kindness, care and the right information so your skin can truly thrive.

1. Falling for social media trends

I love a good skincare product or tip that is beneficial as much as anyone, but social media isn’t always the best place to get advice for your skin.

There are countless of examples, from going out to the sun to heal your acne to rubbing lemon on your skin to treat pigmentation..One trend that’s been making the rounds lately is beef tallow – yes, rendered animal fat – as a moisturizer. While it may seem natural and nourishing, it’s important to know that it can actually be too heavy for most skin types. This heavy, pore clogging ingredient can trap bacteria, trigger breakouts, and wreak havoc on your skin’s barrier – especially if you’re acne-prone or sensitive.

My Fix: Just because something is “natural” doesn’t mean it’s right for your skin. Trust a routine that’s made for your skin type and goals – not someone else’s viral moment. If you’re curious about something. just ask me! I’ll always give you the honest, educated scoop.

2. Skipping moisturizer because you have an oily skin.

This one breaks my heart a little because I totally understand why people do it. If your skin is already oily, why would you add more? But here’s the thing, oily skin still needs hydration. Stripping it dry only tells it to make more oil because the skin gets into alarm mode of not having enough oils and can produce even more oil – so the problem never really goes away.

My Fix: Select a lightweight, gel-based moisturizer that supports your barrier without leaving a greasy residue. Remember, even acne-prone skin requires proper hydration to maintain balance and support overall health. Example for a gel based cream is the Summer Rose Face Cream.

3. Using too many products at once

Another Common Skincare Mistake is trying a lot at once. More isn’t always better when it comes to skincare. Your skin may only be able to take a minimal routine or less then others and some people use too many products at once and their skin is left feeling overwhelmed – often red, itchy, dry, or breaking out. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Sometimes, our skin is simply trying to tell us it’s doing too much.

My Fix: Simplify. I can help you figure out which products may be helping and which might be hurting. We’ll take a closer look at your routine and identify what’s truly benefiting your skin – and what may be causing more harm than good. Think of skincare like building a wardrobe: the right staples go a long way, and you don’t need every trend to look (or feel) your best.

4. Trying everything before asking for help

I get it- between Google and social media, it can feel like you are supposed to have all the answers when it comes to your skin. But the truth is, you don’t have to figure it out on your own. That’s exactly what I’m here for.

My Fix: My approach is simple: let’s talk. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, dealing with breakouts, or just unsure where to start, booking a facial or even just messaging can make all the difference.

5. Not wearing SPF daily

You already know this one – but I have to include it because it’s that important. UV damage leads to aging, pigmentation, dullness, and uneven skin texture. If your investing in treatments, SPF is what protects that investment.

My Fix: A broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every single morning, rain or shine. I’ll help you find the one that feels good and works with your skin type. No excuses!  Try the Mineral Face Sun Protection for example, its rich and moisturizing and won’t leave any white cast on your skin.

I hope these Common Skincare Mistakes make sense to you. At the end of the day, I love being a part of your skincare journey. I’m here to support you and help you feel good in your skin. Perfection isn’t required- just open to learning and trusting the process. And I’ll be right here with you through every step.

Please don’t be hard on yourself. You’re definitely not alone, and I’m here to help you get your skin glowing the way it truly deserves.
