What are pores?
Pores are tiny openings in the skin that are the pathway for oil (sebum) and sweat. While a common misconception is that oil = bad, our skin’s sebum is a very natural function, essential for maintaining a hydrated and healthy complexion.
How do pores get clogged?
There’s a number of reasons why our pores get clogged, including genetics, however the main cause is when dead skin cells, oil or dirt get trapped in your pores.
So, how do you unclog your pores?
- Review your cleansing ritual. If you wear make-up and SPF during the day, double cleansing is essential, starting with an oil-based cleanser like this, followed by a water-based cleanser. Make sure to thoroughly remove all product from your face before proceeding with the remainder of your routine.
- Regular exfoliation, but not too much!. Exfoliating your face 1-2 times a week helps to remove dead skin cells that could be a contributing factor for your clogged pores. You can DIY your own exfoliation, there are tons of recipes in my blog!
- Use non-comedogenic oils. The comedogenic scale ranges from 0 to 5, with 0 being non-comedogenic (least likely to clog pores) and 5 being highly comedogenic (most likely to clog pores). If you are using oils, ensure that you’re opting for types that are not going to clog your pores, but will nourish and hydrate your skin. The Night Serum is the perfect lightweight blend for all skin types.
- Apply a weekly mask for an extra thorough, deep cleanse. Not only are masks great for providing a deep & thorough cleanse, but a beautiful weekly ritual of self care. The Deep Cleanse Clay Mask is the perfect option, formulated with natural minerals and hydrosols to provide a deep cleanse and balancing of the oil.
- Book your facial! Nothing will reduce your clogged pores like a good facial routine. why?
